Hey Guys! I have something I think you might really like today. Yeah, it’s a Beef stir-fry recipe that tastes absolutely delicious. It’s a perfect dish on it’s own or paired with rice or potatoes. I’m not even going to blab much on this one. Let’s get cooking!
Ingredients:
- 400g of Stir-fry beef
- 1 large carrot
- 1 medium sized onion
- 6 broccoli florets (optional)
- 1 large red bell pepper
- 1/8 cup (30ml) of Soy Sauce
- 1 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1 teaspoon of paprika powder
- 1 teaspoon of minced ginger
- 1/2 tablespoon of brown (or white) sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon of corn starch
- 1/4 cup of vegetable oil (1/8 + 1/8 cup)
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1/2 teaspoon of white pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon of rosemary
- 1 Maggi seasoning cube
Method:
- Cut up all the vegetables (except the broccoli) into thin strips separately and set aside.
- Boil the broccoli florets in water over medium heat for 7 minutes with added salt and drain when done.
- Cut up your beef into strips or thin sheet slices if it wasn’t purchased pre-cut.
- Season or marinate the beef strips with soy sauce, black pepper, brown sugar and cornstarch and mix thoroughly to evenly distribute the seasonings.
- To a frying pan or wok on high heat add 1/8 cup or oil, once hot add the beef and stir fry for 5 minutes to brown the beef nicely and evenly on all sides.
- Once browned, remove the beef from the pan to a plate and set aside to avoid overcooking the beef.
- To the same pan add the other 1/8 cup of oil and fry the onions, and minced ginger ginger until the onions turn translucent. The fragrance at this point smells like suya! It’s amazing.
- Add the paprika powder and stir in immediately to avoid burning it. Once done, immediately add the water, deglaze the bottom of the pan and stir everything together.
- Add the carrots and beef back into the pan and stir together.
- Add the remaining spices : white pepper, cayenne pepper, Maggi cube, rosemary and stir in.
- Cook until the water content is about 80-90% reduced depending on how saucy or dry you like your stir-fry.
- Reduce the heat to medium low
- Add the bell peppers and cook for two minutes whilst covered.
- Check for salt and seasoning to your taste.
- Take the stir-fry off the heat and lay the broccoli florets on top of it and viola your beef stir-fry is ready.
Note: - If you’re not using already prepped “stir-fry beef” It’s best of use a cut of beef that’s quite tender and cooks fast (eg sirloin, rib eye, or a tenderloin) so the beef isn’t chewy or tough. Alternatively, tenderize tough cuts with a tenderizer manually.
- The brown sugar and the cornstarch help with the browning of the beef as well as giving the dish a slightly sweet flavor and an amazing texture.
